You can typically find some great reviews of hotels through various mediums, however people's first port of call when wanting a vacation is to go staright to their Travel Agent.  However it is always scary dealing with Travel Agents as you are never too sure what previous clients have had to say about them.  What is their rating?  How did they deal with unhappy clients?  What was their Travel Agent Review rating?
